Renzo Costa
Founding partner of the “Studio Costa Progettazioni”. Architect, painter, sculptor.
He graduated in "aeronautical construction" and teaches design, aeromechanics and flight mechanics. He graduated in Architecture in Rome and "takes flight" starting a cycle of experiences abroad
THE 1980s
In 1976 he won an international competition for prefabricated schools in Syria, in 1978 he designed a bank in Sao Paulo, Brazil and following that a series of holiday villages in Uruguay, Sudan and Zanzibar. In 1980 he settled in Rome, where he founded the COSTA PROGETTAZIONI STUDIO which operates mainly in the field of Architectural Design, Construction Management and Interior Design.
THE 1990s
In 1990 he won the national competition for the design and furnishing of the GRAND HOTEL LEON D’ORO in Verona. In 1994 he won the International Competition for the design of the HOTEL RITZ in Moscow.
In 1999 he was awarded by the City of Miami the Award for the best construction of the year 1999 for the BRICKEL BAY BEACH TOWER in Miami, Florida in the "500 Pdq" category. In Venice he designed the HOTEL AL PONTE DEI SOSPIRI.
FROM 2000 TO 2010
In 2004 he planned the redevelopment of the HOTEL CAVALIERI HILTON in Rome into ROME CAVALIERI WALDORF ASTORIA HOTEL.
He is a consultant in the hotel design sector for major hotel chains including STAR HOTEL, VALADIER GROUP, CHEFER, BARCELÒ, UNA HOTELS & RESORTS, HILTON HOTEL, ITALIA TURISMO, VALTUR, TONINO LAMBORGHINI LUXURY HOTELS and MELIÀ HOTEL & RESORTS.
In 2001 he won the competition by invitation launched by UNA HOTELS & RESORTS for the design of the Hotel and Congress Centre UNA HOTEL MALPENSA, Milan, completed in 2005. Also, for UNA HOTELS & RESORTS, in 2009, he dealt with the design of the new UNA ROMA HOTEL and HOTEL FAUCHE 'in Milan.
In 2008 he took care of the renovation and expansion projects of the GRAND HOTEL PARK IN DUBROVNICK, while in Piedmont he followed the design of the GOLF RESORT - LE VIGNE DEL BAROLO with an adjoining 18-hole golf course. In 2008 he designed for AGUSTA WESTLAND (now LEONARDO) in Vergiate (Milan), the new CONGRESS CENTER, the HANGAR DELIVERY and the STYLE AND EQUIPMENT OFFICE, the HANGAR SIMULATORI VOLO and the pedestrian bridge in the simulator centre of Sesto Calende (Milan).
For the municipality of Sesto Calende, he creates a sculpture for the anniversary of the crossing of the Atlantic by the Siae Marchetti S55X. In the same year, he took care of the restyling of the PETRA BIANCA HOTEL RESORT in Cala di Volpe (Porto Cervo), Sardinia. In 2009 he took care of the new Atelier and the London offices of the designer ANGELO GALASSO.
For the BILLIONAIRE-ITALIAN COUTURE brand by Flavio Briatore he took care of the image of the administrative offices in London, he designed the new stores opened in London, Tokyo, Vienna, Porto Cervo, Las Vegas and Moscow, the flagship store at the HARRODS WAREHOUSES in London, the exhibition stands for the LUXURY-PLEASE international event in Vienna, the BILLIONAIRE in Porto Cervo and the operational offices in the Principality of Monaco.
FROM 2010 TO TODAY
From 2010 to 2017, he designed the Simeri Crichi VALTUR-BARCELÒ Village, a 250-room hotel complex and the 350-room CLUB MED Village in Otranto. In 2011 he was commissioned by important brands such as EDDY MONETTI GROUP, RAPHAEL-SALATO, MOSCHINO, LUCIANO PADOVAN and GRILLI, to design the new stores in Rome and, for PHILIP MORRIS ITALIA, he designed the new entrance to the Rome office.
In 2011 he was commissioned to design and set up the exhibition spaces of the exhibition "ITALIAN STYLE: 150 YEARS OF ART AND DESIGN" promoted by the Embassy of Italy in the Principality of Monaco under the High Patronage of the President of the Italian Republic and of His Serene Highness Prince Albert II. In the private construction sector, he realizes important residential villas such as BUTTERFLY HOUSE and VILLA SABINA, in Rome and VILLA DELLE TARTARUGHE in Sardinia.
In 2013 he won the competition for the concept of the luxury hotel chain "TONINO LAMBORGHINI LUXURY HOTELS” and created lounge bars and shops in Kuwait and Singapore. In the same year, he designs in the Principality of Monaco, within the TOUR ODEON, GINZA GOLD, a Japanese restaurant shop and the AWARD PHOTOGRAPHY FOUNDATION in Dubai.
In 2014 he took care of the preparation of the INTERNATIONAL FORUM OF MADE IN ITALY in the Principality of Monaco, in collaboration with Studio Ambrosetti. At the museum of the MAXXI Foundation, on the occasion of the Gaetano Pesce exhibition IL TEMPO DELLA DIVERSITÀ, he created the works “Up 5” and “Up 6” and the “Room of Time”.
In 2015, for the Toma - Maeg Costruzioni Group in Cuba he designed the MELIÀ PLAYA in Trinidad, a 400-room hotel complex as well as major hospitality facilities in Havana. In the same year, he oversaw the design of the LOMA LINDA GOLF RESORT, a master plan with 2 golf courses, 1200 residential units and a five-star hotel with an attached Club House and Shopping Area intended for the tourist redevelopment of the Guardalavaca area.
In 2016 he designed the installation of the GLUTEN FREE FESTIVAL in the "The Mall" exhibition centre in Milan - Porta Nuova.
In 2017, Hadid Mediterranea Steel Srl commissioned the project for the construction of a tower for hotel use in Malta with an adjacent office structure. In addition, Hadid Mediterranea Steel Srl, instructs the architect Costa to build a widespread hotel with 50-room Resort and 23 independent villas, in Modica (RG), Sicily.
Since 2016, the studio is present in Albania where it is in charge of creating various hotel structures: in Tirana the GRAND HOTEL MORINA PALACE, RADISSON COLLECTION; in Vlora the HOTEL REGINA BLU and the PARADISE HOTEL; the HOTEL RADISSON BLUE in Dhermi; the PELICAN RESORT in Himara and EAGLE COVE in Livadh. Two projects were delivered in the centre of Tirana: The T-TOWER, a 23-storey tower, a 5-star hotel and a diplomatic representative villa on the hills of the city. The studio is currently designing HOTEL AKTAU on the Caspian Sea, a hotel complex with 5-star luxury services.
In 2017 the Costa Design Studio is present in Senegal for the design of a Villa for the residence of the Embassy in the city of Dakar and on behalf of ATIG, African trade and investment group s.a.r.l. of the new technical headquarters of the steel plant with infrastructure and production plant in the industrial area of Dakar.
In 2018, the architect designed the SMART CITY LITTLE ITALY masterplan in the city of Kazan - Republic of Tatarstan - Russia, an integrated structure consisting of: a 250-room hotel with services; a 20,000 square meter office management centre; a 38,000 square meter mall; 3 residential towers of 25 floors; a school and sports centre, for a total of 180,000 square meters. In 2018, in Cuba, in the Mariel Free Port area, he won the competition for the EL SALADO masterplan, an important urban development with the creation of 3 hotel centres, a shopping centre and about 300 residences with a GOLF course designed in collaboration with the OLAZABAL GOLF PROJECT design studio. In the city of Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, the DIAMOND SULTAN NUR shopping centre is being designed with residential and office towers, for a total of 100,000 square meters with towers stretching up to 120 meters.
Currently, the architect Costa oversees the redevelopment of the five-star luxury hotel GRAND HOTEL PARKERS’ in Naples and of the four-star HOTEL ANGLO AMERICANO, in Rome.
